Overtly Listening Body

A curious listening body seems to move differently when guided primarily by its ears.

No longer at a constant distance from the ground, the ears draw the body to different heights, turn it around objects, pull it back and forth, find new planes. Especially when exploring sounds whose sources the eyes cannot predict.

OVERTLY LISTENING BODY Artistic research in progress, performance and sound First iteration: Berlin Mitte, 2019, in response to a Magnetic Studies class by Christina Kubisch at the UDK

Overtly Listening Body is a study on movement in connection to listening, and on being observed while listening, as an alternative to movement guided by sight. A body made overtly, visibly all-ear, navigates space differently. It gravitates toward surfaces, crouches into corners, pauses where a passerby would not. The act of deep listening becomes legible as physical behaviour.

First put into action in Berlin Mitte in 2019, this work is intended as the beginning of a wider artistic research that will involve performance, the collection of sounds, and the capture of movement.
