The Chillout Zone,
a kinetic sound-artwork and relaxing music-playground
The Chillout Zone is a kinetic sound-artwork and an interactive sanctuary for both relaxation and play. Blurring the boundaries between an infant’s crib, a festival’s resting space, and a musician’s studio, it offers a space where sound, embodiement, and stillness converge.
At its heart lies a spacious, cushioned environment beneath a suspended wooden mobile, surrounded by speakers and ambient lighting. Acoustic instruments, and electronic controllers are suspended above the visitors. Designed for groups of two to five participants—of any age—it invites visitors to recline, immerse themselves, and shape a unique sonic atmosphere of their liking.
Here, rest and creation intertwine. Without prior experience, participants can intuitively mix and manipulate harmonious soundscapes, each element chosen to complement the others. The act of playing is inherently collaborative—no single person can activate it alone. Some instruments are only accessible by foot, while others respond to the subtlety of touch and conduction, making the experience deeply embodied and tactile..
